Description

One of the two Divine Sisters of ancient Maniria, the two most powerful supers in all the world's history.

Thousands of years ago, the two sisters, Nivalis, the Dark Sister, and Lucerna, the Light Sister, were born, wielding incredible, complementing powers. They held control over the elements of ice and fire, dark and light; they were nigh-invulnerable, able to withstand even the most powerful of blows and remaining uncut by the sharpest of blades; they held the moon and the sun in the palms of their hands; they were undying.

As they grew older, they grew more powerful. By the time they reached adulthood, They were near-literal gods-on-earth.

As they realized their power, they divided amongst themselves the two hemispheres of the world: Nivalis taking their home continent of Aftanand in the west, and Lucerna taking the continent of Uranand in the east, on the opposite side of the world, leaving the continents in between to rule themselves, though agreeing that, if it should come to it, they may each rule over other lands beyond their claimed-continents' shores, as long as they were in their own hemisphere.

While Lucerna adopted the role of the warrior, Nivalis adopted the role of the scholar. On the great isle of Aftanand, she built the Great Library ,and started an academy for aspiring sorcerers.

Over the following centuries, she devoted her time to the studies of magic and science, and after near a thousand years, had built up the greatest collection of knowledge ever to grace the face of Maniria. Slowly, she shut out the rest of the world, cutting Aftanand off from other continents, until eventually, they were totally isolated.

Meanwhile, far to the east, Lucerna had established an empire the likes of which would never again grace the world: the Empire of the Sun. There was not a single kingdom or empire which did not have to pass through her borders to trade. Eventually, she began to set her gaze past the shores of Uranand, and onto neighboring Oslan, Notlan, and Talfrik. After taking those, and meeting no intervention from her sister, she set ships to sail for the further lands of Ilastar and Friglan.

As Nivalis saw her sister cutting a path across the west, absorbing all into her ever-growing empire, she, at first, did nothing. Though she did not approve, she saw no reason for concern, as she was not in violation of their initial agreement all those centuries ago. However, when she saw fleets of ships, emblazoned with the blazing, golden, emblem of the Empire of the Sun, approaching the western lands of Friglan and Ilsatar, she knew that Lucerna had no intentions of keep to their agreement.

One thousand years after they first divided up the world, the Divine Sisters went to war.

The war was long, and bloody, and after nearly one hundred years of fighting, it seemed it would have no end. The Empire of the Sun had long since fallen. The Great Library long since destroyed, and the Royal Sorcerers long since scattered or killed. But still, neither sister relented.

The end came when the two met for battle on the stormy eastern coast of Uranand, with what little remained of their personal guards. The battle lasted mere hours, and as the last of their guards, the last remnants of once great armies, fell, they stepped into the ring themselves.

As the two living gods went to blows, each strike left vast circles of land burnt to dust, and buried under mountains of ice. Each blow cast the land into darkness, or into blinding light. Each swing of a weapon cut deep swaths into the earth for miles all around.

Finally, after days of fighting, exhausted, and with nothing left to defend, they simultaneously unleashed their full, unrestrained, untethered, power upon the world, and in that moment: the world, as it was known, ended.

The planet stopped spinning. The West was cast into eternal, frigid, night, and the east, into unending, burning, day, and those that survived along the thin, livable band around the middle were thrown back to the bronze age.

It is by the date of this final, cataclysmic, battle that the world set as the year "0", by those that survived; though by today's modern world of computers and machines, this history has been long since been forgotten.
